Extending Services to Matanda Refugee Camp

Matanda refugee camp is a center found in Ishasha Kanungu District south western Uganda three kilometers from Maramagambo community medical Centre, it accommodates 4000 refuges but in most cases in times of war in DRC they exceed for example in year of 2025 it hosted overwhelming number of 16697 Refuges exceeding to the camp capacity.

The camp face a lot of health challenges for example wash related diseases, not having enough sandries to use, Gender based violence, being raped leading to surge of HIV, lack of psychosocial support.

As Maramagambo Community Medical Center we deliver medical services to the Refugees like conducting Antenantal care to pregnant mothers, conducting deliveries, providing postnatal care, providing immunisation services, providing Family planning, providing HIV care and treatement, giving psychosocial support, screening and treating NCDs(Non communicable diseases), doing Outpatient care.

However, we face significant challenges including understaffing, lack of enough medical supplies since we give free services, lack of enough sandries & equipments to use like BP machines, delivery beds, waiting beds, oxygen concentrators, and lack of a stand by ambulance to help in referrals.
